Zyprexa: Zyprexa Zydis
built 656 days ago
Zyprexa Zydis is a variant of Zyprexa that is designed to dissolve almost instantly on the tongue. The medication is then absorbed through the membranes of the mouth. It is believed that because Zydis is not absorbed through the stomach (thereby activating serotonin receptors involved in appetite response), that its use would no longer result in weight gain.

Zyprexa should be taken once a day with or without food. To use Zyprexa Zydis, open the sachet, peel back the foil on the blister pack, remove the tablet, and place the entire tablet in the mouth. Do not push the tablet through the foil. The medication can be taken with or without water; the saliva in your mouth will cause the tablet to dissolve. --If you miss a dose...Take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule.

The standard form of Zyprexa has been shown to cause weight gain in patients. Zydis is a solution to this problem, offering all of the benefits without Zyprexa's primary shortcoming of increased weight. In fact, Zydis disintegrates within seconds of being placed on the tongue. As such, it has been suggested that the Zydis variant may be more effective as it ... bypasses absorption into the liver. However, there isn't enough data to support this stance as of yet.

Zyprexa helps manage symptoms of schizophrenia, the manic phase of bipolar disorder, and other psychotic disorders. It is thought to work by opposing the action of serotonin and dopamine, two of the brain's major chemical messengers. The drug is available as Zyprexa tablets and Zyprexa Zydis, which dissolves rapidly with or without liquid.
