built 670 days ago
In January 2004, Zyprexa was one of six antipsychotic drugs cited by four U.S. medical groups. They said Zyprexa carries the biggest risk for weight gain, diabetes and lipid disorders. The report was issued by the American Diabetes Association, the American Psychiatric Association, The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the North American Association for the Study of Obesity.
"Zyprexa will be the world's number one neuroscience drug in history," the document, authored by Tollefson, states in outlining the company's "strategic intent" for the drug. The company projected sales of $700 million for the drug in 1997, its first full year in the marketplace.
Zyprexa is an “atypical antipsychotic medication” which acts as a mood stabilizer. It has been frequently used to treat schizophrenia by controlling hallucinations, delusions, apathy and withdrawal. Zyprexa is ... FDA approved for the treatment of Bi-Polar Mania. Zyprexa was once described as being "safer and more effective" in the treatment of schizophrenia than any other previous drug.
Zyprexa was FDA approved in the fall of 1996 for the treatment of psychosis. The Australian Adverse Drug Reactions Advisory Committee reviewed the reports of Zyprexa adverse effects and found it had received 327 suspected Zyprexa adverse reactions. The Zyprexa side effects reported included common Zyprexa effects such as weight gain and drowsiness... particularly concerning to the medical committee were the reports of white blood cell disorders, convulsions, and neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Schizophrenia drug Zyprexa causes diabetes and other blood sugar disorders. Zyprexa (Olanzapine) is an antipsychotic drug first approved in 1996 to treat schizophrenia and bi-polar disease. Unfortunately, the drug has now been closely associated with troubling and serious side effects including tardive dyskinesia, and diabetes mellitus or adult onset diabetes.
