Zooey Deschanel was bound to become famous. She was born in L.A. to film-industry parents (cinematographer Caleb Deschanel and actress Mary Jo Deschanel) and has a well-known older sister (Bones star Emily). She went to the same high school as Kate Hudson and Jack Black, and she has dated big-name men (Jason Schwartzman). Also, just look at her. Women that pretty do not become telemarketers.

Zooey Deschanel Photo L.A.-born Deschanel knew what she was getting herself into when striving to make it in the film industry. As a child she spent much of her time on location with her mother, actress Mary Joe. Though she followed in her mother's footsteps, Deschanel credits her father, Academy Award- nominated cinematographer, Caleb, as her inspiration for her sense of style, which is more reminiscent of early Hollywood than the current trend in teen acting.

Joseph Caleb Deschanel was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to a French father and an American mother, who raised him in her Quaker religion. He went to Severn School for high school. He attended Johns Hopkins University from 1962 to 1966, where he met Walter Murch, with whom he staged "happenings," including a memorable one
Zooey Deschanel photo If you don't immediately put Zooey Deschanel's unusual name to her face, that shouldn't necessarily be a surprise. The actress prides herself on being able to completely transform herself both offscreen (she collects costumes and vintage dresses) and onscreen, whether she's playing a rock-and-roller (Almost Famous), Will Ferrell's department-store love interest (Elf) or an institutionalized anorexic (Manic). She grew up in a show-biz family: Her dad is Caleb Deschanel, Oscar-nominated cinematographer; mom and sis are both actresses; and she's traveled the world from set to set. She landed a manager at 16, made her movie debut as a high school senior in Lawrence Kasdan's Mumford and is primarily known for indie films rather than blockbusters.
