Zoloft has not been evaluated or used to any appreciable extent in patients with a recent history of myocardial infarction or unstable heart disease. Patients with these diagnoses were excluded from clinical studies during the product's premarket testing. However, the electrocardiograms of 774 patients who received Zoloft in double-blind trials were evaluated and the data indicate that Zoloft is not associated with the development of significant ECG abnormalities.

The amount of Zoloft a patient needs varies with each individual and the condition being treated. Zoloft should be taken as a single dose with food at about the same time every day, either in the morning or evening.
Zoloft side effects are usually temporary and rarely cause a level of discomfort that causes patients to want to stop treatment. Consult your physician for advice on how to alleviate side effects that persist or bother you.

The effectiveness of Zoloft (sertraline hydrochloride) in long-term use, that is, for more than 12weeks, has not been systematically evaluated in controlled trials. Therefore the physician who elects to use Zoloft for extended periods should periodically re-evaluate the long-term usefulness of the drug for the individual patient (see Dosage and Directions for Use)
