Children, teenagers, and young adults who take Zoloft may be at increased risk for suicidal thoughts or actions. Watch all patients who take Zoloft closely. Contact the doctor at once if new, worsened, or sudden symptoms such as depressed mood; anxious, restless, or irritable behavior; panic attacks; or any unusual change in mood or behavior occur. Contact the doctor right away if any signs of suicidal thoughts or actions occur.

Zoloft is not an instant-remedy: most people begin to feel some relief of symptoms within 2 to 4 weeks. However, in some people, it may take as long as 6 to 8 weeks. Only your doctor can prescribe the correct duration of your Zoloft treatment.

Zoloft comes as a tablet and a concentrate (liquid) to take by mouth. It is usually taken once daily in the morning or evening. To treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder, Zoloft is taken once a day, either every day of the month or on certain days of the month. To help you remember to take Zoloft, take it around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Zoloft exactly as directed.
