Zionism is an absurd idea to be allowed to go unchallenged. A people claim they have a mandate from God to occupy a certain land and the rest of the world listens to them. Barmy.

One perceived Zionism as a national liberation movement whose aim was to fulfill the longing of the Jewish people to return to the historic Land of Israel. The other perceived Zionism as a territorialist view aimed at the normalization of the Jewish people in a country of its own, which would act as a safe haven from persecution and pogroms.

Although such anti-universalist ideas may seem striking to readers today, they actually form an important component of Zionism. Without the premise that Jews cannot find true liberty in their adopted nations, there would be little reason to make the arduous and risky journey to a far-away land in order to form a new, Jewish state. Thus, it was quite normal to read similar ideas throughout early Zionist literature.
