Zinedine Zidane is a legendary French football player. He was instrumental in France winning the World Cup in 1998. He is known for his legendary volley in the 2002 European Cup final that helped Real Madrid to a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen. He retired from football after the 2006 World Cup final.

A flashy midfielder, Zinedine Zidane won the Golden Ball as the most valuable player in the World Cups of 1998 and 2006. Zidane played his first professional First Division game for Cannes in 1991 and quickly rose through the professional ranks. He sealed his reputation by scoring two goals in the World Cup finals of 1998, helping France defeat Brazil to claim its first-ever World Cup championship. Zidane played for professional powerhouse Juventus from 1996 until 2001, when he was acquired by Real Madrid for 46 million pounds, a record fee. (By 2003 his teammates on Real Madrid included superstars David Beckham, Luis Figo and Ronaldo, among others.) Zidane was named FIFA player of the year in 1998, 2000, and 2003. He retired from professional soccer after leading France to the finals of the 2006 World Cup.

Zinedine Zidane's two headers stunned Brazil in the first half of their championship match on July 12 at the Stade de France just outside Paris. These goals gave the French a 2-0 lead. A third goal was added by the team in the second half to win. the French team had beaten the strongest team in the world!

Zinedine Zidane, a prominent name in the history of Football, was given birth on 23 rd June 1972 in the city of Marseille, France. He was the fifth child of the family. He belonged to a Muslim Family of the Algerian Kabyle Berber ethnic origin. He got married to a Christian woman, Véronique Zidane, in the year 1993 and since then he was indulged in promoting racial and religious tolerance espeially among the young. Even before entering the field of football, he as a staunch follower of the game and used to take part in indoor football activities. At the age of 14, Zidane left and participated in the league championship for first year junior selection, where AS Cannes' recruiter, Jean Varraud, observed his game play and talent very closely.
