Unfortunately, the reality for most people living with HIV in Zimbabwe is that the drugs are still not available. At the end of 2006, it is estimated that only around 52,000 of the 350,000 people in need of ARVs were receiving them.35 With the economy falling apart, there is simply not enough funding to provide them through the public sector, and the price of drugs brought privately has risen dramatically; in October 2005, it was reported that the cost of ARVs had quadrupled in the previous three months.36 Even at sites where treatment has been made accessible, a severe national shortage of healthcare workers has led to long waiting lists and administration problems.

Zimbabwe said that it had every right to pursue bilateral deals with Commonwealth nations. The opposition Movement for Democratic Change condemned Pakistan’s decision. Zimbabwe is heavy on Media censorship, mostly due to the fact that their current Ultra-Commander,Robert Mugabe, does not like people cracking jokes about him. Because of this, anyone who jokes or speaks ill about Mugabe immediately has all their works banned in Zimbanana and has a fatwa issued for their death.
Later in 1979, under pressure from Britain, an agreement was reached to provide for a legally independent, democratically governed Zimbabwe. A new constitution was established, and a cease-fire was implemented; Britain agreed to finance a voluntary land-redistribution program. The country reverted to British colonial rule until the transition to self-rule was complete. In the elections of Apr., 1980, Robert Mugabe's ZANU-PF (Patriotic Front) party won by a comfortable margin, and he became prime minister of the Republic of Zimbabwe when independence was achieved on Apr. 18, 1980. Over 25,000 people had been killed in the struggle for independence.

These days, life is not easy for most people in Zimbabwe. Many factories and other businesses have closed as the economy has gone from bad to worse. Most of the population is trying to feed itself by growing food but the rains have not materialized and hundreds of thousands are going hungry. Prices are rising by the day. Zimbabwe's annual inflation rate is currently estimated at 26,000% making it the highest in the world. Basic items such as bread, sugar, and gasoline are increasingly hard to find.
