Zero started out as a clothing company in 1996 by Jamie Thomas while he was skateboarding professionally for Toy Machine. It evolved into a full fledged skateboard company with Thomas leaving Toy Machine and becoming Zero's first pro. As the team grew, Thomas started the company, Mystery Skateboards in October 2003, headed by Zero pro Adrian Lopez. Ryan Smith and Lindsey Robertson, who were amateurs at the time for Zero... went to Mystery.
