TIZANIDINE (Zanaflex®) is a drug used to relax certain muscles. It can help to relieve, but not cure muscle spasms (or muscle tightening) caused by medical problems such as multiple sclerosis or injuries to the brain or spine. Generic tizanidine tablets or capsules are available.

Zanaflex Capsules™ are supplied as 2, 4, and 6 mg capsules and Zanaflex® tablets are supplied as 2 and 4 mg tablets for oral administration. Zanaflex Capsules™ are composed of the active ingredient, tizanidine hydrochloride (2.29 mg equivalent to 2 mg tizanidine base, 4.58 mg equivalent to 4 mg tizanidine base, and 6.87 mg equivalent to 6 mg tizanidine base), and the inactive ingredients, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, silicon dioxide, sugar spheres, titanium dioxide, gelatin, and colorants.

You should not take Zanaflex Capsules™ (tizanidine hydrochloride) if you are currently taking fluvoxamine (Luvox®) or ciprofloxacin (Cipro®). Talk to your doctor if you have liver disease or liver damage. The most common side effects reported in clinical studies were dry mouth, sleepiness, weakness, tiredness and dizziness. You should not take Zanaflex Capsules™ (tizanidine hydrochloride) if you are currently taking fluvoxamine (Luvox®) orciprofloxacin (Cipro®). If you are taking clonidine (Catapres® and Catapres TTS®) or other blood pressure medications, tell your doctor before taking Zanaflex Capsules. Please be aware that there is limited information about the long-term use of Zanaflex® (tizanidine hydrochloride) (more than one year) or use by people who are taking more than 8 mg in a single dose or more than 24 mg per day.
