On April 8, 2007, Johnson won the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia by a margin of 2 strokes over runners up Tiger Woods, Retief Goosen, and Rory Sabbatini. It was his first major title. His score of 289 (+1) tied Sam Snead (1954) and Jack Burke Jr. (1956) for the highest winning score ever recorded for this tournament. His victory took him from No.56 to No.15 in the Official World Golf Ranking; he was the first person outside the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking to win the Masters Tournament in the history of the ranking. After winning the Tournament, he mentioned his Christian faith and thanked God, saying "This being Easter, I cannot help but believe my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ was walking with me. I owe this to him." [1]

When it was all over, and the coveted Green Jacket was slipped on his slender shoulders on a chilly Sunday evening at Augusta National, Zach Johnson tried to grasp the enormity of what he had just accomplished. After all, this was no ordinary win. This was the Masters, and he had just defeated the best players in the world, including Tiger Woods.

As most of you are well aware of Zach Johnson won the most prestigious prize in golf with a MASTERful performance on Sunday. He fired a final round 69 when shooting even par at Augusta was considered to be a good score this year. To give you an idea of how difficult the course was playing all week. Tiger Woods didn’t break par once in any of his rounds and +1 was the winning score.

Johnson, 31, certainly needed the counsel. The Masters has long been the private playpen of golf's aristocracy. As Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson combined to win five of the six previous green jackets, they had become well-attuned to the Masters's Sunday-night rituals, as did their sprawling entourages. Before conquering Augusta National, Johnson was a very good player quietly amassing a nice resume. Nothing could have prepared him, or those around him, for the intensity of the overnight stardom that he slipped into along with his new blazer. "I feel that I played some pretty decent golf for four days, and then my life got turned upside down," Johnson says.
