From New York the Johnsons made their way to Hilton Head, S.C., where Zach honored his commitment to tee it up at the Verizon Heritage. With some admirably determined play, Johnson was tied for fifth heading into the final round, four strokes off the lead. On Sunday morning Kim gave her husband a short pep talk: "Just go take care of it now. Go show people it's not a fluke."

"The kid was never short on confidence," says Jamie Bermel, who recruited Johnson in high school and coached him at Drake. Bermel is now the coach at Colorado State. "I like to recruit people who think they're a little better than they are. When he was on the tee, boy, he was ready to play."

The Golf Channel reported on Tuesday evening that not only did Johnson get his clubs back, but so did Pat Perez, Justin Leonard, Carl Pettersson, Lucas Glover and a dozen other players whose clubs were missing. The affected players missed out on some practice time, but all entrants in the British Open will be playing with their own set of clubs.

Johnson first started playing when he was 10. His ability was said to be normal, but his size wasn't. He was small. When he started high school, he stood about 5 feet and weighed 90 pounds. When he graduated, he had beefed up to almost 130.

Johnson and Brian Bieron, senior director of federal affairs at eBay, both called for Congress to approve a permanent ban on taxes for Internet access and other taxes unique to the Internet. The current ban, which expires in November, prohibits states and local governments from levying "discriminatory" taxes on the Internet, such as taxing the download of a song more than they tax the sale of music on CDs.
