As he prepares for the biggest role of his young career, Arroyo Grande native Zac Efron's star power was bolstered even more over the weekend, when he was named Best Breakout Star at the 2006 Teen Choice Awards. The awards reflect the hottest names in the entertainment industry.

Growing up in Arroyo Grande, California, Zac Efron loved to sing. His parents put him in singing lessons when he was 11, which led to an appearance in the musical Gypsy. He continued doing musicals until landing his first TV gig on Firefly and later making appearances on ER and CSI Miami. He went on to make a few guest appearances as Cameron Bale on Summerland where he eventually scored a regular gig until the show's demise in the summer of 2005.

Zac Efron was raised in Arroyo Grande,California, and he lives at home with his parents and his younger brother Dylan. They have two Australian Shepherds, Dreamer and Puppy, and a Siamese cat named Simon.
