Yu-Gi-Oh! The Sacred Cards: Games
built 231 days ago
Both Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Sacred Cards and Falsebound Kingdom were interesting departures for the series, but looked better on paper than in practice. The idea of introducing an RPG element to the game is certainly a novel idea and one that could work, but the card game system -- which is the heart of the Yu-Gi-Oh! games -- were thrown out. Yu-Gi-Oh!: World Championship Tournament 2004 reintroduces the familiar rules from the card game and places them in a tournament format.

The Yu-Gi-Oh!(TM) franchise is based on the Yu-Gi-Oh!(TM) comic series from artist Kazuki Takahashi that first appeared in Japan in 1996. It is currently being serialized in SHONEN JUMP, the monthly manga magazine published by VIZ Media. The comic spawned a hit cartoon TV show, a top-selling trading card game, popular video games and other licensed merchandise. Yu-Gi- Oh!(TM) follows the adventures of Yugi, a young boy who possesses the "Millennium Puzzle" that allows him to transform into the "Duelist King" whenever he is challenged.

The battles are handled through the familiar Yu-Gi-Oh! card game where players take turn discarding creatures that can attack each other, and eventually the Duelist if he or she doesn't have creatures to defend him or herself. Traps and spells enhance the creatures and players during their turn...the Duelist who runs out of personal hit points is the loser...so it's important to have a plan of attack with a set of cards that will do this job. The game features more than a thousand cards of different abilities, so there is a bit of strategy in creating a strong deck. Though the game tries to be an RPG, it really isn't. It offers the familiar overhead exploration perspective, but most Duelist battles must be initiated by the player with a tap of the R button...occasionally players will have to enter a battle simply by talking with an opponent, but these are rare.

The game consists of a series of card games based on Yu-Gi-Oh!. To win each game, the player must lower his opponent's life points to zero. This is done by declaring attacks onto him using monster cards. The player loses if his own life points are reduced to zero. Everyone starts with 8000 life points.
