Yggdrasil
built 629 days ago
Yggdrasil is the "World Tree", a gigantic ash tree, connects the nine worlds: Ásgard, Álfheimr and Vanaheim rest on the branches of Yggdrasil. The trunk is the world-axis piercing through the center of Miðgarðr (often called Midgard), around which Jötunheimr was situated, and below which lay Nidavellir or Svartálfheim. Its three roots stretch down to Hel, Niflheim, and Muspelheim, although only the first world hosted a spring for Yggdrasil.

The first Yggdrasil is an enormous sand submarine stolen from Aveh and operated by Bartholomew Fatima and his crew of Sand Pirates. It includes living quarters, a lounge with a bar, and a Gear Hangar. Fei Fong Wong meets Bart and acquires use of the Yggdrasil for travel and shopping shortly after leaving Lahan.

Runes of Knowledge (Su): Yggdrasil has an aditional divine ability not listed in the statblock above that can be changed, as a free action, once per round. This divine ability is written in a secret place located on Yggdrasil's skin, invisible to any except those that Yggdrasil chooses to allow to see it. No form of magic, epic or otherwise, can reveal these runes if they are not voluntarily revealed by Yggdrasil.

Though Yggdrasil is relatively new to the Digimon mythos, a similar character exists in the Digimon Adventure and Digimon Tamers continuities named ENIAC. ENIAC, as the first computer, laid down the foundations of the Digital World, and because of his unique nature, he exists in multiple universes all at once. ENIAC appears only in the series of games starring Ryo Akiyama for the Wonderswan, and is part of one of Ryo's attempts to defeat the evil Millenniummon. As an added note, ENIAC's appearance in the game, as a clear orb sitting upon a pedestal, is practically identical to Yggdrasil's appearance in X-Evolution.

The significance of the horse in the name Yggdrasil is interesting as the horse is the favourite shamanic animal for travel between the worlds. There are other creatures associated with the tree. Niddhogr ("the one striking full of hatred") is a dragon or worm who, with a group of snakes, gnaws at the roots, symbolising chaos. A squirrel called Ratatosk scurries up and down the tree relaying insults between the dragon and the eagle at the top who creates the wind by flapping his wings. Between his brows stands a falcon; this may symbolise the union of male and female. Four harts and a stag graze on the leaves and from the stag's antlers water drips into a spring which feeds all the rivers of the world.

The Yggdrasil subsector was originally settled by the Floriani starting in -150. During the Sindalian Empire, the worlds of Yggdrasil and Foradin were settled, and the Empire named most of the subsector's planets, once surveyed, for Norse mythology. As the Florian League grew, it renamed the majority of these worlds.
