Yell
built 655 days ago
Often called the "Gateway to the Northern Isles", Yell is the second largest of the Shetland Isles. If you are looking for peace and quiet, Yell is the perfect destination. With large stretches of uninhabited coastline and interior, you can walk for miles and enjoy the scenery, the wildlife and the plants without any interruption. During the summer the beaches and coast is alive with many different species of seabirds, but you can ... see many of them at the Lumbister Nature Preserve. The island is also one of the best places to see otters in abundance as they feed on the rich food the shallow water provides.

The Yell was best known as being shouted by Confederates when they charged or were winning a fight, but it had other uses. It is said that units would often take up "the Yell" while they were on the march, passing it from unit to unit down the road. When anyone in the pre-Chancellorsville Second Corps heard it from afar, soldiers would supposedly declare "It's Jackson, or a rabbit." On one occasion during the Valley Campaign, while the Stonewall Brigade was in camp, one of its five regiments began yelling. Soon another regiment took it up, and then another, and another, until every member of the entire brigade was delivering the Yell at the top of his lungs. General Jackson came out of his tent, leaned on a fence, and listened. The cacophony continued for several moments and then began dying away.

In Spain, Yell said it is on track to meet expectations for local currency revenues with full-year organic revenue growth of around 3 pct, although reported revenue will reflect the negative effect of weaker Latin American exchange rates. It expects EBITDA margins ahead of the previous 37 pct guidance.

Much of the inland areas of Yell are under a blanket of peat up to 10ft deep. Yell is the least cultivated of Shetland's inhabited islands. Its settlements tend to lie around the coastal fringe.
