The Yell Leaders are Milwaukee's premier pop/soul combo. Since their first singles garnered rave reviews from Billboard and the BBC's John Peel, among others, The Yell Leaders have toured regularly throughout the upper Midwest, where they have shared the stage with the likes of Semisonic, K's Choice, Del Amitri, Evan Dando, The Gufs, Citizen King, The Verve Pipe, The Why Store, Cheap Trick, and others.
Yell practice, held each week during football season, represents more than just another campus event. It is the time and place where enthusiasm is generated. The new student often gets his/her first feeling of real school spirit on these occasions. At yell practice the band and yell leaders take their places in front of the student body. The band plays, the students practice yells, and yell leaders make inspirational talks. These are fine, moving occasions long remembered in hearts of Aggies.
Yell was started by the Yell Leaders in 1999 as a way of welcoming all Aggies, current and former students, back to campus to begin a new school year. First Yell occurs on the weekend of the first home football game and includes several different events:
