Yeah Yeah Yeahs: New York
built 237 days ago
Musically minimalistic and visually outrageous, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were at the center of the revival of post-punk and garage rock that made New York City a rock & roll hotspot again in the early 2000s. After the success of the Strokes, the trio (led by neo-punk pinup girl Karen O) were the next band hotly tipped to break through. While their 2003 debut FEVER TO TELL didn't make them rich, it did make them major players on the international scene. Like the White Stripes and the Gossip, they have no bassist, instead relying on angular guitar riffs, primal drums, and Ms. O's lupine howl to get their punk's-not-dead message across.

With a spastic frontwoman, a vampiric guitarist and an optometrically enhanced drummer (he wears glasses), the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are anything but a conventional band. So it's sort of surprising that for their new album, Show Your Bones, they're doing things by the book.

Discovered in the wake of the Strokes' popularity and the subsequent garage rock revival, New York's art-punk trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs comprise singer Karen O, guitarist Nicolas Zinner, and drummer Brian Chase. O met Chase at Ohio's Oberlin College and met Zinner through friends after she transferred to N.Y.U. Zinner and O formed the band in 2000 and recruited Chase when their original drummer bowed out. more

Following the success of their 2003 debut release ‘Fever To Tell’ the Yeah Yeah Yeahs quickly became one of the most talked about new bands to emerge from the, at the time, over saturated New York music scene. Singles such as ‘Date With The Night’ and ‘Maps’ became indie anthems with the band gathering fans and plaudits in every corner of the globe and made a strong reputation for themselves with electric but exhausting live performances. The two years of constant touring saw the band reach near burn out and so members Karen O, Nick and Brian each went there separate ways focusing on collaborations and side projects.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a Grammy Award-nominated New York City-based rock band. The band members are lead singer Karen O, drummer Brian Chase, and guitarist Nick Zinner. They formed in 2000 as a trio, and were later joined by second guitarist Imaad Wasif in 2006 for touring purposes. According to an interview that aired during the ABC network's Live from Central Park SummerStage series, the band's name was taken from modern New York City vernacular. The band has recorded two studio albums; the first, Fever to Tell, was released in 2003. The second, Show Your Bones, was released in 2006 and was voted the second best album of the year by NME magazine.
