Yahooligans was the original name of Yahoo!'s web portal for children. All entries in its directory are screened by Yahoo employees for appropriate content. The site ... hosts games, e-cards, movie schedules, a daily advice/information column, and educational resources for parents and teachers.

Some of the cartoons used to be able to be viewed on Yahooligans!, and a few episodes were released on three DVDs, Mario's Greatest Movie Moments!, Havoc in Hyrule and Ganon's Evil Tower. Shout! Factory later released a compilation DVD set of the entire Zelda cartoon series in October 2005.

Content and Scope: The content of the Yahooligans workshop is appropriate for current issues within the classroom: earlier finishers, challenge the gifted, and extra support for those in need. These issues will always exist in classrooms. Yahooligans, a site designed for kids, constantly alters its content to reflect current interests of kids. Thus, Yahooligans can easily be utilized in a classroom for many years. Also, as teachers become more comfortable with using computers and the internet in the classroom, they will be more apt to branch out and find other sites their students would enjoy.

Yahooligans!, Yahoo!'s kid-friendly property, accepts the challenge. In everything the site does, from populating its directory to choosing marketing partners, it treads conservatively. Last month, Yahooligans! debuted its Book Club, featuring pro skater and video game star Tony Hawk's recommendation of The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales by Jon Scieszka. Toyota, perhaps banking on parents partaking in the Book Club with their children, is the offical Book Club sponsor.

Yahooligans is basically Yahoo! for kids, and designed for ages 7 to 12. Sites are hand-picked to be appropriate for children. Also, unlike normal Yahoo, searches will not bring back matched found by crawling the web, if there is no match from within the Yahooligan listings. This prevents possibly objectionable sites from slipping onto the screen.
