As Muller seemed have a sluggish start, Malisse sleep walked through the match. It was only in the middle of the second set that the 24-year-old from Luxembourg found his bearing and tried to make a match of it. But the Belgian had already uncorked a break by then and had no problem in holding on to the advantage to win the encounter.
From the very first set, the unseeded Malisse was moving well and it seemed the man who showed world No.2 Rafael Nadal the door in the semi-finals in 2007 is slowly getting his moorings. He dished out an equal number of aces and played well on crucial points to shut out the first set 6-4 in 35 minutes.
Agassi trailed Malisse 3-1 in the first set, then rallied to force the tiebreaker and fought off three set points before winning 12-10. The long tiebreaker and its outcome took more of a toll on the 26-year-old Malisse, of Belgium, and he offered only token resistance in the second set.
"I tried to play aggressively, and I served very well," said Malisse. Serve well he did. He saved six set points in the second set with effective and accurate serving. The second set, one of the best seen in the tournament, went the distance.

"He wasn't making any mistakes, " said Malisse, who has played in two finals in his first three tournaments of 2006. "I just had to keep grinding and I had to play more aggressive in the second and third sets and it worked well for me."
Agassi grabbed two quick points on Malisse's serve, then capped the afternoon with another solid backhand. The Belgian had to lunge for it and drove it long, setting off raucous cheers in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
