The first break of the deciding set didn't come until the seventh game when Malisse went ahead 4-3. Haas broke back to 4-4 and the pair held serve the rest of the way. Haas went up 4-1 in the tiebreaker but Malisse came back at 4-4. Haas took the next two points to make it 6-4 and then had his first match point on Malisse's serve. Malisse held but Haas then served successfully for the match.
One of Malisse's most notable matches occurred at the 2005 U.S. Open. In the fourth round, he was down two sets to Andre Agassi and was two points from elimination (down 5-3) in the third-set tiebreaker when he fought back to take that set. In the next set, he dominated Agassi. Agassi later remarked that Malisse was "hitting winners off of both sides." This unanticipated comeback led CBS Announcer Mary Carillo to remark that Malisse is "oozing with talent." Just as it looked that Andre Agassi was tiring, Agassi came firing back, managing to take the final set 6-2.

Malisse's group consisted of three players that each finished 1-1. But the first tiebreaker is based on percentage of sets won. Malisse won a group-best three of five sets, while Schuettler won two of five and Alejandro Falla earned two of four.
Andre Agassi became the fourth man over 35 and the first in 14 years to make the U.S. Open quarterfinals Monday, outlasting Xavier Malisse 6-3, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 4-6, 6-2. Two points from a straight-sets win, Agassi couldn't find answers when Malisse cranked up the intensity and evened the match.
Malisse served out the match at 5-1 in the second set, finishing with four aces and no double faults. He won 19 of 21 points on his first serve and nine of 10 on his second.

Top-seed James Blake led third-seed Xavier Malisse 7-5, 3-3 when rain forced officials to suspend the Delray Beach International final until Monday. "It's a little frustrating, but at least I'm going to bed with a set lead," Blake said.
