Xanga, one of the world’s biggest blogging communities with around 27 million users, launched a video product yesterday. Xanga Videos offers unlimited video hosting for all Xanga members, whether they have free or paid accounts. However, it’s not clear whether the unlimited hosting will be permanent. Xanga Videos ... provides options to link to the videos and embed them in Xanga blogs and elsewhere (MySpace, hi5, Piczo, Multiply etc). If you’re a Xanga member, you’ll see your own videos at videos.xanga.com - if not, you’ll see nothing (although you can view the intro video here). And that’s a massive, massive problem - unlike YouTube and MySpace Video, there’s no centralized place to explore the video content.

Winter 2002, "Xangalympics" is aggressively marketed by Xanga to its members, with the winner to get Lifetime membership, and the winning ‘Team’ to get other prizes. Winners are never announced. This is again viewed as a demonstration of the various contemptible techniques in which Xanga attempts to recruit new users, as well as a direct result of the resignation of Biz Stone, alleged creator of "Bianca", from the Xanga Enterprise.

Xanga users can create up to eight blogrings, or join blogrings created by others. Just like webrings, these are groups of blogs on similar topics - each member displays a link the blogring’s main page, as well as links to the “next”, “previous” and “random” blogs in the ring. Blogring leaders can moderate applications to join a ring, delete blogring members and hand over their leadership to other users.

[6] On September 9, 2005, web-based batch uploading of photos was added; on September 26, 2005, all Xanga Classic members were given 200 MB of free photo storage (and Premium members were increased to two gigabytes of storage).
