"X3: Reunion" is the Sequel to the award winning "X2: TheThreat." The game introduces a new 3D engine as well as a newstory, new ships and a new gameplay to greatly increase the varietyin the X-universe. The economy of "X3: Reunion" is more complexthan anything seen in the X-universe before. Factories are beingbuilt by NPCs, wars affect the global economy, NPCs can tradefreely, and pirates behave far more realistically.

No space game is complete without an alien artifact and the warring factions that battle over its possession, and on the familiar save-the-world scale, X3: Reunion delivers in spades. The campaign is long and complex, and brings back familiar X-universe characters as well as new ones. The relationship between main character Julian and his father adds a personal spin, and thanks to strong voice acting, you will have an immediate connection to this realm and your place within it. Complex gameplay is complemented by a complex narrative, and that story ... forms the basis of numerous awe-inspiring set pieces, such as an early knuckle-biting planetary escape that is as exciting as any sequence in recent gaming memory. While the initial missions move along slowly—almost excruciatingly so—the pace will increase significantly, and assuming you can survive numerous bugs, the surprise ending offers a gratifying payoff.

X3: Reunion immerses the player into the most realistic, living universe, ever experienced. Extensive development has gone into the X3 engine, making full use of DirectX 9 technology, to create dramatic visual effects and stunningly realistic starships. The economy model in X³: REUNION is more complex than any previous X game. Coupled with the massively enhanced A.L. (Artificial Life) system, X³: REUNION will present players with an ever changing, evolving universe; where a player's actions really can shape the future of the universe.

If there's such a thing as a realistic space sim, X3: Reunion is it. It's flat-out gorgeous. It's ... intensely complex, and unlike the Wing Commander and Freelancer titles of old, X3: Reunion is notoriously unfriendly to newcomers. But if you're willing to invest the time and effort, you'll be treated to some amazingly deep gameplay: space combat, buying and selling, ship building, police, pirates and more, across an enormous universe of 130 sectors. There is a story, too, but you needn't follow it. you can choose your own path, profession - be a trader or mercenary if you want - it's up to you.

On 11 November 2006 Egosoft released version 2.0.01 of X3: Reunion. This contained many new ships, features, new sectors and further bug fixes.[21] Bala Gi's missions are available to players who have logged 10 game hours, have at least 5 million credits on account, have a good reputation with the Boron, are not an enemy of the Split or Paranid, and own at least one station. Rewards include the Player Headquarters, the M7 class prototype battleship, and the ability to build the new M3+ class of Heavy Fighters. The availability of these missions is not dependent on the main plot, and saved games from previous versions are able to receive the new missions and mission rewards. The game itself was relaunched as a budget PC DVD-ROM, appropriately titled X3 Reunion 2.0. The re-release has the 2.0 patch already applied, and contains no trace of Starforce Copy Protection.
