Wyeth: N.C. Wyeth
built 786 days ago
Late Fall, watercolour on paper, 67.3cm x 47cm, 1981, by Andrew Wyeth In 1948 Wyeth began painting Anna and Karl Kuerner, neighbors of the Wyeths in Chadds Ford. Ironically the Kuerner's farm is just a few yards from the railroad tracks where N.C. Wyeth died. The Kuerner's farm is now available to tour through the Brandywine River Museum. Like the Olsons in Maine, the Kuerners and their farm became one of Wyeth's most important subjects for nearly 30 years.
Andrew Wyeth launched his career in 1937, at the age of twenty, with a sold-out exhibition of watercolors in New York. After that debut, his father, noted illustrator N.C. Wyeth (who ... served as his art instructor and mentor) wrote him a congratulatory letter that prophesied, "You are headed in the direction that should finally reach the pinnacle in American art."
The Giant by N.C.Wyeth N.C. Wyeth ( WY uth) was encouraged to draw when he was a child. When he was about 20 years old he began working for a magazine, the Saturday Evening Post. They sent him to study southwest culture and for three months he lived among the Indians and herded sheep. He sketched and painted pictures to show what life was like among the Indians.
