Wrestling is one of the most challenging and demanding sports offered at Lake Park High School and it is ... the most rewarding. Wrestling teaches discipline and sportsmanship while developing endurance, strength, balance, quickness, and stamina. The IHSA offers 14 high school weight classes, providing any size athlete an opportunity to compete with someone his own weight.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) supervises college wrestling, while the National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations (NFSHSAA) governs high school wrestling. The NCAA collegiate-style bout is 7 minutes long, with a 3-minute first period followed by two 2-minute periods. Bouts that are tied at the end of regulation go into an overtime period. High school matches are 6 minutes long, with three 2-minute periods.

Dan Wills returns to NC High School Wrestling as head coach of Laney High School. Dan has had very solid teams in the past years as head coach of Hoggard HS. He has a young team that will get better each week.

Mountain Ridge's Ryan Clark takes Fort Hill's Dominic Walters to the mat during their 119-pound high school wrestling match Thursday evening at Mountain Ridge. Clark won by decision. The match ended too late to be included in this edition.

Oregon State has signed two-time state champion Kyle Larson (Hermiston, Ore./Hermiston HS) to a wrestling letter of intent, Beaver head coach Joe Wells announced Wednesday. Larson, who won titles at 112 pounds as a freshman and 145 pounds as a junior, will try for a third Oregon Class 4A high school state title this winter in his senior season.
