World War 1: Nazi Germany
built 627 days ago
During World War 1... known as The Great War, Australian soldiers fought on the Western Front (the border area between France and Belgium) between 1916 and 1918. This was Australia’s main war involvement, far bigger than the fighting at Gallipoli in 1915. Australians fought in the war as fellow members of the British Empire – with the Australian Government not hesitating to consider Australia also at war when Britain declared war on Germany.

Europe avoided major wars in the 100 years before World War 1 began. In the 1800's, an idea swept across the continent that helped bring about the Great War.It was Nationalism - the belief that loyalty to a person's nation and its political and economic goals come before any other countrie's. During the 1800's nationalism became popular for the people who shared a common language, history, or culture. They began to view themselfes as supirieor. Nationalism led to the creation of two new powers:Italy and Germany. through the uniting of many small states.

On April 2, 1917, Wilson asked Congress to declare war, arguing "the world must be made safe for democracy." Wilson reorganized the federal government to coordinate almost every phase of the war: production of weapons and war materials (the War Industries Board), workers (the War Labor Board), and transportation (the Railway Board). Franklin D. Roosevelt, as assistant secretary of the navy, became very involved in the ship production and the drafting of sailors. In May 1917, General John Pershing led American troops into horrific battles at Cantigny and Belleau Wood. By June, Pershing joined with British and French troops and helped coordinate an attack along a 200-mile front. The combined allied armies pushed the Central Powers out of the Argonne Forest and back into Belgium and Germany.

In 5 pages the author answers the question of whether the people of the United States treated German and Japanese people differently during World War II. 'World War II was a total war. It involved the American Allies and their enemies, the Germans and the Japanese. Germany did not adhere to the Geneva Conventions, they tortured and brutalized and executed thousands of people. America hated the Germans for this, but they were not as much of a threat to the Americans as were the Japanese. Japan sent kamikaze pilots to bomb Pearl Harbor, Hawaii... propelling the Japanese people into a war in the Pacific with America.
