Miss Yu Xiao Ping, second runner-up in the 2007 World Series of Mahjong, is the daughter to the Taiwanese artiste nicknamed “Big Brother of Taiwan”. Since her victory in the Series, her reputation and level of exposure continued to rise, as news stories about her success continued to be run in Taiwan for a full month following the June tournament in Macau. She noted happily that she has accepted WML’s invitation to be the spokesperson for the Taiwan qualifying tour in the second Series, which will be proudly sponsored by Remy Martin. Miss Yu will join hands with Remy Martin to promote the “Remy Taiwan Mahjong Tour” with an aim to promoting the game of mahjong all over Taiwan.

The 1903 World Series was a tremendous success. Thousands of fans attended every game, traveling by train between the two cities, and the players responded with exciting performances. The following year... the series was not held. In 1904 the Boston Pilgrims were scheduled to play the New York Giants (later the San Francisco Giants). But Giants owner John T. Brush and manager John J. McGraw had quarreled repeatedly with the founder and president of the American League, Ban Johnson. As a result, the Giants refused to play.

The 102nd World Series has one game in the books, and it wasn't what most people expected. That's life in the 2006 postseason. Let's hope for playable conditions, and if that falls through, then there's always a Vince Gill concert about 300 feet away at the nation's original Fox Theatre.

When the 1989 World Series began, it was notable chiefly for being the first ever World Series matchup between the two San Francisco Bay Area teams, the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics. Oakland won the first two games at home, and the two teams crossed the bridge to San Francisco to play Game 3 on Tuesday, October 17. ABC's broadcast of Game 3 began at 5 p.m. local time, approximately 30 minutes before the first pitch was scheduled. At 5:04, while broadcasters Al Michaels and Tim McCarver were narrating highlights and the teams were warming up, the Loma Prieta earthquake occurred (magnitude 6.9 with an epicenter ten miles (16 km) northeast of Santa Cruz, CA). The earthquake caused a great deal of destruction in the Bay Area and killed 62 people.

The World Series continued to be played during World War II (1939-1945), but all of baseball faced difficulties. Many of the best players were drafted into military service, and wartime regulations limited travel and the manufacture of equipment. But the series provided welcome entertainment to war-weary Americans. The Yankees continued their success, with World Series victories in 1941, 1943, and 1947. The St. Louis Cardinals ranked as one of baseball's best clubs during the 1940s. Great players such as Enos Slaughter and Stan Musial helped the Cardinals win the World Series in 1942, 1944, and 1946.
