Notes about Works Cited: Select only the works that you actually cite. The traditional MLA format is to list items alphabetically without numbers. Each entry should contain author's last name first, a comma, their first name, and a period. Then the title of the piece in quotation marks with a period. Then the title of the work that the piece came from, underlined. Then publication information.

The "Works Cited" list of source materials appears at the end of a research paper. The list should be in alphabetical order according to the last name of the author, and should consist of only those sources you have actually cited in your paper. If there is no author, the entry should be placed according to the first letter of the title. (Ignore "A," "An," and "The.") Notice that the second and subsequent lines are indented five spaces from the left margin.

The Works Cited page is located at the end of your paper and contains all the works that you have cited in your paper. The list simplifies documentation by permitting you to make only brief references to these works in the text.
