built 123 days ago
Witchcraft is the use of supernatural or magical powers. A witch is a person who engages in witchcraft and the term witch usually refers to a female.A male "witch" is more frequently termed a wizard or sorcerer. Popular culture often uses the term Warlock to denote a dark witch or a male witch. Neopagan witches and wiccans... generally consider the term to mean one who has broken their oaths to the coven or released a secret they were bound to keep. The word and meaning of Witchcraft is the wielding of supernatural intent.

Witchcraft is an ancient form of magickal practice, steeped in tradition, lore, and mystery. Witches call the winds, heal the sick, divine the future, and speak with the dead. To be a Witch means to take part in the creation of all that you are and all that you become. Witchcraft is not merely a “Nature religion,” as it is sometimes described, but a force of nature. The Witches of yesterday are the legends of today.

Witchcraft has nothing to do with Satanism. Satan is a Judeo-Christian concept and the Craft has nothing to do with either Judaism or Christianity. Witches abhor manipulative and exploitative acts, such as are often attributed to Satanists. Witches do not accept the concept of a personification of evil. They do not seek power through the suffering of others. Witches are essentially healers, whether they heal broken bones or broken spirits.

Most people who come to learn the traditions of Witchcraft already have some basis in the religion. Witchcraft is more than holding rituals and worshipping the Gods, it is a way of life. It is an understanding of seasons and an appreciation of life. It is learning to take responsibilty for yourself and what you do.

This year the Museum of Witchcraft at Boscastle in north Cornwall celebrates the 50th anniversary of its original foundation. It was in 1951 that Cecil Williamson, an ex-film producer, tobacco farmer and wartime secret agent, opened the museum at the Witches Mill in Arbory Street, Castletown, Isle of Man. Williamson subsequently sold the building to Gerald Gardner and moved his collection to new premises in Windsor Street. Unfortunately he was asked to move on by representatives of the royal family who did not the idea of a witch museum on 'their patch'. In 1955 he moved the museum to Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds. Local opposition, including an arson attack, eventually forced him to move to the Witches House on Boscastle harbour in 1960. In 1996 Williamson retired and sold the building and collection to the present owner Graham King.

Witchcraft starts with a heart of rebellion and works by focusing on a distracter, a lie, which is some technique purported to release power. It is important to have "faith", to trust in the technique and not God. Believing in lies is an "acceptable sacrifice" to Satan, the father of lies, who honors his children with real power. The irony is, that due to the inherent deceptive basis of witchcraft, the practitioners of it often think they are serving God, while accessing a power from below (earth)--not from above.
