R[I]chard Winger became interested in minor parties in the early 1960s, while he was working toward a bachelor's degree in political science at the University of California, Berkeley. He was curious as to who voted for minor parties, and began analyzing the votes of the Prohibition Party, Socialist Labor Party, and Socialist Workers Party (the only 3 nationally organized parties which ran candidates). He ... analyzed the votes of previous minor parties, especially the Communist and Socialist parties.

Winger has always been blunt and outspoken, and by most accounts is considered difficult to work with. She was critical of co-star Robert Redford during and after filming Legal Eagles. While filming Leap of Faith with Steve Martin, she reportedly feuded with the director, with Martin, and with anyone else who came within earshot. Watching An Officer and A Gentleman, it would never occur to one that she despised Gere from their first day on the set.

Winger, a Vietnam veteran... served as the chief of the Maplewood (MN) Police Department from 1998-2002, where he supervised 65 employees, including more than 40 police officers. Prior to that, Winger served 27 years - in positions ranging from police officer to District Commander - for the City of Saint Paul Police Department, which serves more than 90,000 residents.

Winger took another shot in 1993 with "Pull," but the damage had been done and, like contemporaries such as Firehouse, Warrant and Slaughter, they fell into the abyss of hard rock nostalgia. Now, in 2006, in the midst of a metal revival, Winger takes yet another shot with "IV," and -- ridicule them if you like -- but this is actually a pretty good rock record.

Harrington was still moaning, so, Winger said, he removed the hammer from the man's hand and beat him with it in the chest.
