Wine produced under the Stoneleigh Rapaura series celebrates the distinctive character of this sub-region in Marlborough. Gentle, come-hither aromas of pear drop, nashi, ripe melon and floral nuances act as a pleasant prelude to tactile Pinot Gris hedonism. Considerable time on lees has contributed to the wine’s distinctive creaminess whilst lush stonefruits, tangelo and candied orange flavours careen through a wave of textured complexity. A long finish, rich with spice, rounds off the experience to a lip-smacking conclusion. Enjoy now through to 2009-10.

Pinot Grigio is a phenomenon in the U.S. wine industry; its 22.9 percent sales increase over the past year makes it the fastest-growing white varietal, according to ACNielsen. The 2004 Columbia Winery Yakima Valley Pinot Gris ($10) from Washington state stands slightly apart from the other five because of a mineral note and a tad less pepper.
