One of the top decisions, during these days of rapid winery expansion and rehabilitation, was the choice of cooperage material - oak, redwood or concrete. All had their advantages, believe it or not, during the days of material shortages. A good discussion of these materials was written by a Mr. O'Bert. It is well to remember that concrete was chosen in many cases because of its availability. Many wineries were in dire need to increase or replace cooperage immediately.

A study published in the December/January 2008 issue of medical journal Angiology has shown further support to the belief that drinking wine responsibly helps reduce the risk of heart disease. The scientists ... found that moderate alcohol consumption, in general, is linked to a lower risk of other diseases as well, such as type-2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
