Wine of the Month: Grapes
built 631 days ago
Beaumont’s first wines were Chenin Blanc and Pinotage, and they were one of the first wineries to produce a wooded Chenin (Hope Marguerite - named after their grandmother). They were the first local winery to bottle a 100% Mourvedre. They produce a lovely unwooded chardonnay (Jackals River Chardonnay), an outstanding Shiraz and a Bordeaux-style blend (Ariane), plus a great value-for-money(Raoul's Old Basket Press Red) and a dessert wine (Goutte d'Or, or “drop of gold”). They ... make Port (Cape Vintage) in the traditional way, and invite friends and customers to the annual “Port Stomp”, foot-crushing grapes in an old open fermenter.

[One] segment of the industry that was panicked by these fast-rising wine and grape prices was the Eastern bottler. With many factors working against them, only rough times could be seen by these people. Unfortunately, the bottler convinced himself that the rise in prices was due to a plot amongst the Californians. If they had taken a more realistic and analytic approach, their problems might have been a little less troublesome.
The Private Reserve Club offers the greatest diversity, in both regions of origin and grape varieties, and is the best choice for those wine drinkers with more adventurous tastes. These are more expensive fuller-flavored dry wines, with greater concentration and body, and the red selections often have good short-term aging potential. Whether it’s red or white, if you’re looking for a distinctive flavorful wine discovery from a country or varietal that you might not have tried before, then this is the Club for you! Over the course of a year, members will receive 6 RED & 6 WHITE WINES from all over the world.

Wine is usually made out of grapes. The operative term here is usually. Since the grape is a fruit, it stands to reason that any fruit can be turned into wine, and it is so. via Springfield News Leader

Castello di Brolio is one of Tuscany's leading wine estates and one of the oldest wine producers in the world. An excellent vintage, this well balanced red is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes. Dark ruby red in colour, with wild berries, cherry, and light vanilla aromas. Full-bodied and velvety, with lots of fruit and a long succulent finish.
