"Windsurfing (... called boardsailing) is a sport involving travel over water on a small 2-4.7 meter board powered by wind acting on a single sail, that is connected to the board via a flexible joint. The sport is a hybrid between sailing and surfing. The sail board might be considered the most minimalistic version of the modern sailboat, with the major exception that steering is accomplished by tilting the mast and sail rather than with a rudder. Windsurfers can travel over flat water as long as there is enough wind; they can also cut into breaking waves and perform spectacular stunts. Windsurfing is very versatile by its relation to the sailor. It can mean a peaceful relaxed pastime on the water to some people, it can be a high-stress high-adrenalin sport to others, but it can also be a lifestyle of seeking the endless limits of perfection in skills and self-expression."

Windsurfing is synonymous with Nitinaht Lake. In fact many people claim that Nitinaht is the best place to windsurf in Canada. During the summer, rarely is there a day when nobody is windsurfing on the lake. One of the features that make this lake so attractive to all skill levels, is that the wind intensity varies throughout the day. This range in wind strength (not gusty) allows people of all skill levels to utilize the lake during the day.

Windsurfing equipment is available for hire at most major beaches on Phuket, either from resorts or from local shops. Boards may be rented by the hour, half-day, full day or longer. Lessons for beginners are available.

The seed for The Windsurfing Movie project was planted in 2004 in a chance meeting between DeCesare and Panebianco. What was originally a grass roots endeavor has grown into the biggest film project in windsurfing history.
