Microsoft has ... prepared for the level of customer support necessary to ease the transition to Windows 95 by PC users. The company has helped train thousands of retailers and computer manufacturers to install and support the product. In addition, Microsoft is providing 90 days of no-charge telephone assistance (from the date of the first support call). For the first few months following the product release, when call volume is expected to be at its peak, Microsoft is increasing the hours in which telephone support will be available for Windows 95 in order to service more customers. Extended hours are 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. (PDT) Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. (PDT) Saturday and Sunday. (Regular support hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. [PDT] Monday through Friday.) In addition to phone support, Microsoft offers a full range of technical information via the Internet and other online services, as well as a no-charge fax-back service for tips on commonly asked questions.

Security has been a hot topic with Windows for many years, and even Microsoft itself has been the victim of security breaches. Consumer versions of Windows were originally designed for ease-of-use on a single-user PC without a network connection, and did not have security features built in from the outset. Windows NT and its successors are designed for security (including on a network) and multi-user PCs, but are not designed with Internet security in mind as much since, when it was first developed in the early 1990s, Internet use was less prevalent. These design issues combined with flawed code (such as buffer overflows) and the popularity of Windows means that it is a frequent target of worm and virus writers. In June 2005, Bruce Schneier's Counterpane Internet Security reported that it had seen over 1,000 new viruses and worms in the previous six months.[13]

Griaule's second new release is a biometric authentication solution, using fingerprint recognition for easy and secure access to Windows networks. According to a Gartner Consulting study (IT Security Summit, 2005), 30% of help desk calls are password-related. Biometric Network Logon increases network security, simplifies password management, eliminates password problems and reduces help desk support costs. One of the main benefits is that Network Logon supports the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader and can be used with small groups or the entire company, providing rapid return on investment.
