Wind turbines have been used for household electricity generation in conjunction with battery storage over many decades in remote areas. Increasingly, U.S. consumers are choosing to purchase grid-connected turbines in the 1 to 10 kilowatt range to power their whole homes. Household generator units of more than 1 kW are now functioning in several countries, and in every state in the U.S.

Wind erosion is a serious problem on agricultural lands throughout the United States as well as the world. The ability to accurately predict soil loss by wind is essential for, among other things, conservation planning, natural resource inventories, and reducing air pollution from wind blown sources.

Wind speed varies throughout the country. It ... varies from season to season. In Tehachapi, California, the wind blows more from April through October than it does in the winter. This is because of the extreme heating of the Mojave Desert during the summer months. The hot air over the desert rises, and the cooler, denser air above the Pacific Ocean rushes through the Tehachapi mountain pass to take its place. In a state like Montana, on the other hand, the wind blows more during the winter.

In order to improve Wind River's business operations, Fenton undertook a major multi-solution Oracle implementation. Over the past year, Wind River thoroughly cleansed its data with an upgrade from Siebel CRM Release 6.3 to Release 7.8, and then implemented Oracle SOA Suite and Oracle Customer Hub to deliver complete integration between Siebel CRM and the Oracle E-Business Suite. The results of these deployments have already created incredibly clean records, a streamlined order-to-cash process, and a massive reduction in data duplication. Wind River ... deployed Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition to arm its sales staff with the right tools to create web- based dashboards for state-of-the-art sales reports. There are 500 users currently on the system.

Wind-up Records is able to execute this initiative through the support of the five publishing arms of its parent company Wind-up Entertainment. COO Jim Cooperman stated, "Our companies see the validity in supporting the changing landscape of how individuals are introduced to music, and we are pleased to be in a position to be among the first independent labels to formally allow users to choose our songs as the soundtrack to their lives."

Wind turbines located in agricultural areas may create concerns by operators of cropdusting aircraft. Operating rules may prohibit approach of aircraft within a stated distance of the turbine towers; turbine operators may agree to curtail operations of turbines during cropdusting operations.
