The Wilmington Blue Rocks, a Class A minor league team affiliated with the 2004 World Champion Boston Red Sox, plays at the 6,532 seat Daniels S. Frawley Stadium on Madison Street. Racing enthusiasts in Wilmington enjoy the Delaware Park Race Track and Slots Casino, which hosts daytime thoroughbred racing from April to September at one of the nation's most picturesque sporting facilities. Wilmington, DE – Setting the franchise record for victories in a season was just the beginning for Wilmington Blue Rocks left-hander Rowdy Hardy. On Thursday, August 30, the Carolina League released its year-end All-Star Team with Hardy becoming the third Blue Rock pitcher in the team’s 15-year history to be selected as Pitcher of the Year in the circuit. The Blue Rocks (19-11) jumped on Salem starter Brian Bogusevic right away. The first three batters got hits and Wilmington scored two runs on four hits in the first inning and a run on two hits in the next. Bogusevic allowed only one more run -- on a homer by Kiel Thibault -- but gave up a career-high 11 hits and ... walked three batters in six innings.

Wilmington, DE - Speedy outfielder Mel Stocker became the 90th former Blue Rock to appear in a major league game on Saturday night. A Blue Rock in 2003 and 2004, Stocker went 0-for-1 at the plate as a late substitution for the Milwaukee Brewers in a 12-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Stocker becomes the fourth former Blue Rock to reach the majors this season, joining Zach McClellan (2002-03), Jacoby Ellsbury (2006) and Clay Buchholz (2006), who tossed a no-hitter for the Boston Red Sox last night.
