William Frawley: Los Angeles
built 647 days ago
Back in 1916, Frawley had appeared in two short subject silent films. He made subsequent appearances in three other short films, but it wasn’t until 1933 that he decided to pursue an ongoing career in the movies. He soon moved to Los Angeles and signed a seven year contract with Paramount Pictures. Finding much work as a character actor, he had roles in many different genres of films — comedies, dramas, musicals, westerns, and romances. A notable appearance was made in the 1947 holiday favorite Miracle on 34th Street as Judge Harper's political adviser (who warns his client in great detail the dire consequences if he rules that there is no Santa Claus).
Frawley begins his quest for unification with a thorough, and frequently masterful, survey of the background terrain. The breadth of coverage is truly impressive, though the material remains difficult at times and the inattentive reader may well feel lost after travelling through the essential Vygotsky, Chomsky, and Wittgenstein. This is not a criticism. Frawley's task is difficult and many twists and turns must be explored in order to ground the arguments behind his principal theses.

In 1968, Frawley organized an attempt to oust liberal Senator Thomas Kuchel. Frawley wanted to replace him with retired U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Curtis LeMay. However, it was eventually agreed to back Max Rafferty, who unseated Kuchel in the primary but lost to Democrat Alan Cranston.
Frawley's body is buried at San Fernando Mission Cemetery near Los Angeles, California. The headstone reads, simply, "In Loving Memory / William C. Frawley / Febrary 26, 1887 - March 3, 1966. (edit)
