William Faulkner: University Library
built 614 days ago
William Faulkner once said that the past is never dead, its not even past". The Invisible People know this well. They knowingly toy with the idea. There is only life after life. The video features handpicked props and sets that set the stage for the past to come alive. Everything from the early 1900s style architecture of the featured home, a classic Rolls Royce (The vehicle registration still reads Harrahs No. 8 and is a car that was reserved for the legendary Rat Pack in Las Vegas by Harrahs Hotel & Casino), ruins of the Humming Bird temples of Tzin, Tzun, Tzan, and the ancient healing art of acupuncture are indicative of and an homage to the old. According to Mr. Sandmantis, who Minored in Anthropology at California State University Northridge, and who makes pilgrimages to sacred sites throughout the world regularly, "the past isnt just relevant to usits alive.

William Faulkner: Novels 1926-1929: Soldiers' Pay / Mosquitoes / Flags in the Dust / The Sound and the Fury (Library of America) Although chronologicallly the four novels in this volume (which includes Faulkner's masterpiece The Sound and the Fury) are Faulkner's first, this is the last volume of his novels to come off the presses of the Library of America. This is a landmark event in the world of Belles Lettres, not just American literature! The first volume (Novels 1930-35) was published in 1985, making the publication of the definitive texts of the novels of William Faulkner a 21-year enterprise. Kudos to Library of America and editors Noel Polk and Joseph Blotner.
For the last few years of his life, Faulkner was a writer in residence and lecturer in American literature at the University of Virginia. However, he continued to spend much of his time at his home in Oxford. In 1962 he was awarded the gold medal of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His last novel, The Reivers, was published shortly before his death the same year. Selected Letters of William Faulkner, edited by Joseph Blotner, was issued in 1977.
Faulkner chose the University of Virginia as the repository for manuscripts and papers in his possession at the time of his death. The University of Virginia Library's Special Collections Department holds "the largest collection of Faulkner's manuscripts including holograph and typescript material from nineteen published novels and two unpublished novels."
