A bust of Will Rogers is on the north side of the garden’s lake. It was commissioned by the DeMolays of Tulsa and created by Lawrence Tenny Stevens. It was dedicated in 1955.

It is in recognition of his extraordinary work on the CF gene and identification of the human genome, that the Will Rogers Institute (WRI) will honor Dr. Collins with the inaugural "Annual Prize for Outstanding Contributions to Lung Research." The award will be presented on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the WRI Board of Directors Meeting at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Built in 1956, Will Rogers Elementary School has been serving the Altus community for more than 40 years. With an average enrollment of nearly 500 students, the school serves kindergarten through fourth-grade students.

After ending his brief formal studies, Rogers worked the Dog Iron Ranch for a few years. Near the end of 1901, he and a friend left home with aspirations to work as gauchos in Argentina.[4] They made it to Argentina in May 1902, and spent five months trying to make it as ranch owners in the Argentine pampas. Unfortunately, Rogers and his partner lost all their money, and in his words, "I was ashamed to send home for more," so the two friends separated and Rogers sailed for South Africa, where he took a job breaking in horses for the British Army near the end of the Boer War.[6]

At first Rogers seemed to believe that the Depression was a natural result of excessive abundance, and would be automatically corrected by the curbing of expenditures. When the stock market went into a tailspin in October 1929, Will Rogers was not concerned. It would be a greater loss to America, he said, if the cows were not milked one night. The whole nation was more dependent on the cackling of a hen than on Wall Street ( Vol. 2, 90).
