1. Black Widow -- Black Widows

   On April 17th, Black Widow will be on display at the St. Teresa's Parish (Rt 17N) in North Haven CT for the local Cub Scout troop. And finaly NEW updated pictures of the truck are now posted online!
3. Black Widow -- Black Widow Spiders
   The black widow’s name comes from a popular belief that the female spider kills and eats her partner after mating. However, this does not ordinarily happen, especially among black widows in North America. The belief developed because scientists observed the spiders in cages in a laboratory, where the males could not escape. When black widows live in nature, the males usually escape after mating.
4. Black Widow -- Black Widow Spider
   Of all spiders, the Black Widow is the most feared. The female's venom is especially poisonous to people. Despite its reputation, this spider often attempts to escape rather than bite, unless it is guarding an egg mass or if it is cornered and pressed. The male black widow will not bite you. After mating, the female sometimes eats the male (remember, she only has to mate once in her life), earning the name "widow." During the period shortly following mating and laying of eggs, the female black widow can be a little cranky and hungry. After this period (if he lives through it!) the male lives quite comfortably, eating prey captured by the female.
5. Spiders -- Black Widow Spiders
   Be very careful when working around areas where black widow spiders may be established. Take proper precautions - wear gloves and pay attention to where you are working. The reaction to a Black Widow bite can be painful. The victim should go to the doctor immediately for treatment.
6. Black Widow -- Spiders
   Both Western and Eastern Black Widows spin webs that lack shape and form. Their webs are erratic in appearance, and the silk is stronger than almost all other arachnids. The webs are rough and sticky. The black widow spider is shy and nocturnal in habit, usually staying hidden in her web, hanging belly upward. Although not aggressive, she may rush out and bite when her web is disturbed or when accidentally
7. Spider -- Black Widow Spider
   A black widow spider bite gives the appearance of a target, with a pale area surrounded by a red ring. Severe muscle pain and cramps may develop in the first two hours. Severe cramps are usually first felt in the back, shoulders, abdomen and thighs. Other symptoms include weakness, sweating, headache, anxiety, itching, nausea, vomiting, difficult breathing and increased blood pressure. Young children, the elderly and those with high blood pressure are at highest risk of developing symptoms from a black widow spider bite.
8. Black Widow -- Underside
   The female Black Widow is shiny black, usually with a reddish hourglass shape on the underside of her spherical abdomen. Her body is about .5 inches long, 1.5 inches when the legs are spread. Adult males are harmless to humans, about half the female's size, with smaller bodies, and longer legs and usually have yellow and red bands and spots over the back as do the immature stages.
9. John Belushi -- Samurai Widow
   In her book, Samurai Widow, John Belushi's widow, Judy, says that John never really liked Chevy Chase. John resented Chevy's becoming an "overnight star" on the show, while Belushi had struggled for years in reparatory theater and National Lampoon. In fact, Chevy was originally hired for SNL as a writer, not a performer. However, Chevy started writing himself into scripts, and gradually gained exposure on the show. This eventually led to his being hired as a cast member.
10. Black Widow -- Body
    The Black Widow was once more embroiled in the schemes of the Hand when she attempted to prevent them from stealing the body of their master warrior, Kirigi, from the morgue. The Hand struck Natasha down with poisons that killed her, but Stone of the Chaste restored her to life. She joined forces with Daredevil and Stone against the Hand when they attempted to revive Elektra. Natasha guessed at the time that Elektra had been successfully revived, but kept this from Matt for his own good.
