Wiccan: Wiccan Traditions
built 645 days ago
The Wiccan mythos ... includes the seasonal cycles of Nature known as the waxing and waning tides of the earth. These are the growth and decline forces that are often personified as mythical figures. In many Wiccan Traditions these figures are the Oak King and the Holly King. Other Traditions use an older, more primal set of figures, the stag and the wolf. Which ever is the case, the mythos is one of life and death. The one figure supersedes the other in an ever-repeating cycle.

Various Wiccan traditions have since evolved from that established by Gardner, which came to be called Gardnerian Wicca. These other traditions have distinctive beliefs, rituals, and practices. Many traditions of Wicca remain secretive and require that members be initiated. There is ... a movement of Eclectic Wiccans who do not believe that any doctrine or traditional initiation is necessary in order to practice Wicca.[3]

The Scourge is usually seen only in older Wiccan traditions. The scourge is an implement, usually a small leather whip or cat'o'nine tails, used to gently strike a member for purposes of purification of purging in rituals. The scourge is ... symbolic of spiritual discipline. It is derived from the symbolic ritual tools of the Egyptian god Osiris.

Wiccan beliefs, while they draw on a number of different sources, are in fact unique unto themselves. Wicca includes parts of other traditions, particularly Celtic and Greek. But the uses of these other myths serve to promote Wiccan ideals.
