Wicca: Goddess Worship
built 642 days ago
Wicca adherents will tell you over and over that Wicca is older than "Christianity" (not a Bible word). Witchcraft is not older than worship of the true God. It came up in OPPOSITION to the worship of the true God.
Wicca is atheistic: Some Wiccans view the God and Goddess as symbols, not living entities. Depending upon which definition of the term "Atheist" that you adopt, these Wiccans may be considered Atheists.
The main philosophical teachings of Wicca teach that the Divinity is composed of both masculine and feminine principles, which most Traditions personify as a Goddess and a God. (see The Horned God) Other Traditions teach that the supreme Deity is the Goddess who possesses within Herself the polarities of masculine and feminine energy.

Some so-called 'Christians' berate Freemasonry because it accepts members who practice the religious teachings of Wicca. Using inflammatory words like 'Devil Worshipers' and 'Satan', these anti-Masons employ a poison the well argument. It's ironic from those who claim to follow a religious deity known for His love of all.

Most Americans glean their Wicca knowledge from TV's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" or "Charmed," with their witches and curses, good and evil. Wiccan worship focuses on respect for the earth and its inhabitants with a "do no harm" credo.

[R]evisionist history is no stranger to Wicca. For those interested in an article critical of Wiccan revisionism see "The Scholars and the Goddess" by Charlotte Allen, Atlantic Monthly (Jan 2001).
