Whoopi Goldberg: Movies
built 277 days ago
"Murphy Brown" creator Diane English is writing The F Word for HBO, a 10-hour mini-series she's exec-producing with Linda Ellerbee, Whoopi Goldberg and Diane Keaton. It will, she notes, have the importance for women that HBO's From the Earth to the Moon had for men. HBO, she says, is "wonderful to work with, smart, and not very meddlesome -- it's time the ladies had a prestige project there." The F Word will cover the period from 1963-73, "The wild, outrageous golden age of the women's movement -- with stories that haven't been heard." She says the project is moving along "at a nice pace" and stresses it will ... be star-studded.
Acclaimed drama takes a powerful look at the beginnings of the modern civil rights movement, as the 1955 Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott is seen through the eyes of black housekeeper Whoopi Goldberg and well-to-do white employer Sissy Spacek. Their relationship forms a bond that tests each woman's courage. 95 min. NOTE: This Title Is Out Of Print; Limit One Per Customer.
Goldberg's TV movies include It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie for NBC and Showtime's Good Fences, co-producing and co-starring with Danny Glover. In early 2003, Goldberg returned to Broadway, co-starring with Charles Roc Dutton in August Wilson's acclaimed Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, which she ... produced. She had last appeared on Broadway in 1997, in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

The radio show "will take my full focus, but I will continue to pursue movies if I want to make movies," Goldberg says. "I can take my career and eat it, too."
