EMI/Geffen's July 1994 Whitesnake 'Greatest Hits' compilation was a resounding success in the UK, reaching no.1 in the album charts, but performed more disappointingly in North America. In conjunction with its release, David Coverdale put together a new lineup of the band, which toured Europe, Japan, and Australia between June and October 1994.

Whitesnake is a British hard rock band, founded in 1977 by David Coverdale (formerly of Deep Purple). They were active primarily in the 1980s, but still tour, albeit with an entirely new line-up (bar Coverdale), to this day.
David Coverdale's career was publicly reactivated on Christmas Day 2002, when he announced on his website that Whitesnake would begin touring in the new year. The personnel only included drummer Tommy Aldridge from previous line-ups, the new men being Marco Mendoza (who had contributed to 'Into The Light') on bass, Doug Aldrich (ex Dio) on guitar, Reb Beach (ex Winger) on guitar, and Timothy Drury (The Eagles) on keyboards.

During the band's early years, its music was primarily blues rock (although, Coverdale himself described Whitesnake's early style as, "progressive R&B") [2]. At this time, the band was made up of Coverdale, Bernie Marsden, Micky Moody and Neil Murray. The drummer and keyboard slot changed a few times.

After a period of inactivity, Whitesnake officially went on hiatus in 1991. Coverdale decided to try working with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page on their Coverdale-Page project in 1992. His voice and style had in the past been compared to Robert Plant (... of Led Zeppelin), which may have inspired this. The album became a #5 platinum record upon release in 1993.
Whitesnake Whitesnake was a hard rock or heavy metal British band, active primarily in the 1980s. The band was formed by David Coverdale (of Deep Purple) and was originally popular only in Europe and Japan.
