With their all-roo 'whip within a whip' construction featuring 4, 6 or 8 plait bellies, these are heavier snake whips than the pocket snakes, with wider thongs and a leisurely action. The additional layers in the belly, and more reinforcement in the upper part of the thong, mean that this design lends itself to a wider range of techniques and to heavier use.

Failure by MPs to attend a vote with a three-line whip is usually seen as a rebellion against the party and may eventually result in disciplinary action, such as suspension from the parliamentary party.
