Wet Hot American Summer: Films
built 242 days ago
A critical and commercial blockbuster Wet Hot American Summer was the highest grossing film of 2001, and received a coveted 108% on Rotten Tomatoes. Roger Ebert said that it was his favourite movie of all time and attempted suicide after realising there was no point going on, as he'd likely never see a better film. "Wet Hot", as it's come to be known by an unspecified group of people, is ... notable of being the only film ever to be nominated for Best Picture twice in the same year. Russell Crowe was not happy, but A Beautiful Mind sucked balls, anyway, so screw him.
Wet Hot American Summer received mostly negative reviews from critics. As of April 2007, it has a 42/100 rating on Metacritic and a 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 11% rating from their "Cream of the Crop" critics. Notably, Roger Ebert rated the film with one star out of four, and despised it so much that his review took the form of a sarcastic tribute to Allan Sherman's Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh.[1]
Often called Wet Hot, the movie has polarized audiences. It has gained a serious underground following, especially on college campuses. It has been called a modern-day Animal House, with fans quoting every single line, parties dedicated to dressing up like the characters, and midnight showings where both take place. The film itself follows The State's irreverent humor, with lots of absurdism, non-sequiturs, and toilet humor.

"Wet Hot American Summer" takes place over the course of one day: the last day at Camp Firewood, to be exact. As the camp radio announcer tells everyone at the film's outset, it's their last day to find love, if they haven't found it already.
