built 255 days ago
Westminster College in Fulton has announced it will celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Winston Churchill's famous "Iron Curtain" speech with a weekend of activities next March. Westminster President Fletcher Lamkin says members of the Churchill family have already committed to attending the festivities and many other authors and scholars are expected to come. Fletcher expects the weekend to ramfications for the college into the future. Churchill came to the mid-Missouri college at the invitation of President Truman. Few knew at the time that he would deliver a speech that would coin the phrase used to describe the countries taken over by the Soviet Union. Speakers will be announced later.

Westminster College uses as its chapel a seventeenth-century English Church, which was dismantled in London and rebuilt on the campus. The lower level of the church houses the Winston Churchill Memorial and Library, which contains memorabilia of Sir Winston Churchill and World War II. The church, originally designed by Sir Christopher Wren, is a national landmark that attracts 30,000 visitors annually.
