An assault at a Westminster College fraternity sent a man to the hospital, according to New Wilmington police. Police said Jeffrey S. Thomas, 23, of New Castle, was knocked unconscious and was treated at Jameson Hospital for a lacerated eyelid and fractured facial bone near his eye.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) today honored three Westminster College athletes with weekly awards for the week of Jan. 7-14. Junior guard Gina Brunetti (Canfield, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) was named PAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, sophomore Emily Dressler (Hummelstown, Pa./Mount Calvary Christian) was named PAC Women’s Swimmer/Diving of the Week, and junior Conor Simpson (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) was tabbed PAC Men’s Swimmer/Diving of the Week. Brunetti averaged 17.7 points in three Westminster (10-3, 3-2 PAC) home wins, including a career-high 25 points in a 79-74 win over Chatham on Saturday. Brunetti’s previous career high was 16 points scored in Monday’s 69-61 win over Point Park. She ... tallied 12 markers in a 59-35 win over Waynesburg on Wednesday. Dressler earned a combined seven wins in two meets last week, including the 500 freestyle (5:19.10), the 200 medley relay, and the 200 free relay in a dual win at Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday.

Westminster competes in the Frontier Conference of the NAIA's division one athletics. Its athletic offerings include men's and women's basketball, men's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's cross country, and summer basketball camps. In the 2006-2007 academic year, Westminster began fielding a men's lacrosse team at the club-intercollegic level, following the completion of a new athletic field on campus.
