Westlife: Shane Filan

In the tradition of British and Irish boy bands like Take That and Boyzone comes Dublin's Westlife, a quintet consisting of Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Bryan McFadden, Mark Feehily, and Kian Egan. Filan, Egan, and Feehily were among the group's six founding members, but the other half of the group was dispatched when Louis Walsh, Boyzone's manager, took interest in them. This made room in the band for Byrne and McFadden; Walsh ... introduced Westlife to Boyzone vocalist and solo artist Ronan Keating, who became the group's co-manager shortly after they cemented their recording contract. The group's first single, 1999's "Flying Without Wings," entered the U.K. charts at number one, a feat they replicated with "Seasons in the Sun" and "Swear It Again" in 2000. Their self-titled debut album met with similar chart-topping success and quickly went platinum in their homeland. Westlife was released in the U.S. by Arista Records in early 2000.

With 35 Million records sold worldwide, 7 Million in the UK alone, 12 UK Number 1s--Westlife are back with their smash single "You Raise Me Up" and the follow-up second single with the legendary Diana Ross. Relaxed, refreshed and bursting with energy, Westlife, the quiet superstars of the mainstream UK music scene, bounce back with their new album Face To Face. Its a world that they have dominated for seven years and the album features all the hallmarks of that reign--a collection of classic songs and future standards. In brief, Face To Face finds Westlife doing what theyve always done best. After a brief interlude with their Rat Pack album of classic song sung in the style of Sinatra, Face To Face is Westlifes first collection of new songs since Turnaround topped the charts in 2003. "Its got the best material weve ever released", says Shane confidently.

In tradition of Irish and British boybands like Take That and Boyzone comes multi award-winning, Guiness World Record holding boyband – Westlife. Consisting of Shane Filan, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Bryan McFadden and Nicky Byrne, the quintet has proven to be successful all over the world even when Bryan McFadden left the group on March 9, 2004. Having out lasted just every other boyband that sprouted out along with them like weeds, Westlife continues to laugh off speculations of a break-up and say that their goal is to score at least 20 UK number ones.
